You take the time to craft your post in a REAL editor (like, ohh, I dunno… Notepad!) but when you paste it into Wordpress and click “Publish”, Wordpress turns your efforts into something almost, but not quite, entirely UNLIKE what you wanted.

The Problem:
Wordpress is mangling your HTML, adding and deleting tags like it was going out of style. If you are more familiar crafting your HTML by hand, or you use an editor that does a fair job (shame on you), then being able to put your code directly into Wordpress without back-end shenanigans will improve your Wordpress experience a thousand percent.

The Solution:
The actual mangling happens in a couple of different places, so getting rid of the WYSIWYG editor only solves part of the problem. But it’s a big friggin’ part. Here’s how to get it done:

  • Log on with an admin account and go to the “Users” tab.
  • Click on the “edit” link next to your ID.
  • On the next screen, look for the option that says “Use the visual editor when writing”. It’s exact location may vary depending on the version of Wordpress that you’re using. In mine, it’s right up there at the top of the page, almost like they KNOW you’ll want to send it back to hell where it belongs turn it off.
  • Last step… umm? Uncheck the box, maybe?

That’s it.

Now when you go to add a post, you’re presented with what was previously the “Code” view. Only now, the tags stay put when you put them in. Mostly.
